Art Glass Overlay and Stained Glass Transoms are amazing ways to add art to your home. Transoms are windows that are above windows or doors, often in a type of arched shape. Since all of our glass is custom cut to fit, we can create these unique shapes that are perfect for unique art glass. We design and create these amazing glass pieces for our clients and work with them to have a design that matches their home and what they love!
What is a transom window?
These type of windows refer to their location above a doors or another windows transom; a beam at the top of the window or door. These windows come in different shapes and custom sizes for the home, business, or whatever type of building it is. These types of higher up windows are great candidates for art glass because their location shows them off well and usually means they will have different types of lighting coming through them throughout the day.
Adding art glass such as sandblasting, cast glass, or stained glass is a great way to show off your style, add any privacy needed, and upgrade your transom windows.
Lead and bevel, leadlite, or colorless stained glass is perfect for windows, doors, and entryways. They do not tie you down to a color while using the lines, textures, and a great variety of bevels to make stunning and unique designs. Transoms are high up windows - most often above doors or other windows. In general, these are stationary windows that provide light into the home. They are also a fantastic place for stained glass overlay and when the light shines through them, you can see the amazing colors and textures reflected inside the home. In the case of multiple transoms and windows, we can create cohesive matching pieces, or designs that flow from one window to the next.
Our designers work with our clients to create these pieces so that you get a custom piece of art and a custom experience! These are pieces made with the client in mind that include how much privacy they would like, colors, textures, style, and shapes. Art glass overlay windows are a popular use for art glass and one of our favorite ways to combine form and function. We can create art glass overlay for windows that are stationary or sliding. These units are double glazed or triple glazed, with the art safe on the inside. This way there is a tempered piece of clear glass in front of the art for a dual glaze, or one on each side for a triple glaze.
Plus, our art glass is created on tempered glass for improved strength over annealed glass. We love being safe and creative in how we do our art! Our designers love working with our clients to come up with their ideal design. We make pieces that can match a favorite textile, art in the home, inspired by a trip, or even a portrait of your pet! We love our traditional roots but are up to the challenge of creating something you would not typically see in stained glass. Show off your favored design when upgrading your windows that gives you your preferred level of privacy while still enjoying the glow of the light from outside.

This piece features a variety of flowers topped with a dragonfly being carried away by it’s iridescent wings. The background uses the crossed lines of the Tudor style while being framed by a striking red stained glass. This art glass was wonderful to create and we love that our clients get to enjoy it in their home!

This sorority in Orange County got an upgrade to its side lights featuring their Greek letters, floral elements, and some fun stylized lead lines!
They are showing off their house pride while letting the light shine into their entrance. This is one of the many designs we have created that shy away from what many would think of as a traditional stained glass design. This is why we love what we do - we can create unique designs not normally done, or keep to our tradition of those classic styles. Looking out at greenery is not too shabby of a view, but there wasn’t much else to hold interest. By adding a palm tree arching into the frame and some color with birds of paradise, we created a permanent tropical view! The bottom of the window is obscured for a little more privacy. However, the natural view can still be seen and works well with the plants created on glass. We think this is a wonderful combination and the clients do as well. This is also a great example in using clear areas in your design - from peepholes to most of the window!

As exciting as the power lines may be, this window could use a more interesting view. Now with our art glass design, two cranes enjoy the day with their feet cooling in the water while they wait for something tasty to float by! We love the touch of colors on the cranes and pink of the sky over the blue mountains.

Inspired by the canals of Venice, this gondola is traveling between buildings down the water just passed a bridge. This type of half round window above a door is called a transom window. It makes the perfect location to showcase some art glass with the sun shining from the outside. This piece is shown backlit making it’s strong colors really come through. It is great at providing privacy through that window - onlookers just see great art! We just love how warm and calming this piece of art feels and it was a very fun design to make.

This window looked at the neighbors, but had some great light coming in that made our clients not want to cover it with the blinds all the time. We designed and crafted this lead and bevel piece with textures, bevels, and lines to hide the outside view while letting the sunlight really show off the art! We love the classic look of the design with a built in frame look to surround the inner diamond bevel clusters.
We can create these designs and often silicone them right up to the original glass, or we create a dual unit for the space. Both make for a more insulated window that also protects the art.
This ocean design focuses on plants and shells we may find under the water! The design spans all three windows, giving the viewer a feel for being under the sea. Pair it with a soak in the tub for a relaxing experience! The kelp frames the outside edge of the piece, iridescent bubbles float towards the surface, shells rest on the sand, all while swooping shapes make up the blue water.
We love creating art glass for windows because it gives our clients the ideal view they have been looking for. This piece blocks the view of a wall and neighbors, providing more privacy with soothing colors. If not everything needs to blocked, we can leave clear or less obscure areas in design for peeking out or keeping your beautiful yard in view.
This is a custom lead and bevel piece made to fit this antique wooden window frame. Our designers created this look by combining glass bevels to form the shape along with the swirl and outline of the lead. Since all our work is custom, we are able to add designs to things such as this window frame. Since there are many different frame sizes, being custom allows much more flexibility in getting projects created and finished. We have learned there really is no standard size!

This project had a design that spanned multiple windows. The sun adds a blaze of color to the clouds over the colorful, rolling waves that crash into the surrounding cliff sides.
We worked with our clients to create this seascape to add custom art to their home. They will always have their own personal ocean view!
Light will still come through the windows, making the art glass glow beautifully. The lamination we use will also cut down on the UV’s coming through. Our clients come to us with a need for unique windows and we work with the designs they are looking for. Sometimes they have an idea, and sometimes we have to pick their brains for what will speak to them. Sometimes it’s matching a photo they took, a painting in the home, or designs in the surrounding furniture. Then a paper pattern is created by hand which our clients approve, and work with us to pick all the colors, bevels, and other decorative elements. Once it is all put together by our artists and ready, we install it into our clients home or work, and they have beautiful art made for them to be enjoyed!
Before, this high window had a view of some power lines and a slice of the California sky. We have replace worse views, but this one called for a custom piece to enjoy and the lighting was perfect for stained glass! Inspired by the beautiful cranes that visit the area, our clients worked with our designers to create this window. Here, two cranes enjoy the water with the beach and setting sun in the background. The swooping lead lines and flowing color enhance the water and give it a feeling of movement.
