Art Glass Overlay and Stained Glass Transoms are amazing ways to add art to your home. Transoms are windows that are above windows or doors, often in a type of arched shape. Since all of our glass is custom cut to fit, we can create these unique shapes that are perfect for unique art glass. We design and create these amazing glass pieces for our clients and work with them to have a design that matches their home and what they love!
What is a transom window?
These type of windows refer to their location above a doors or another windows transom; a beam at the top of the window or door. These windows come in different shapes and custom sizes for the home, business, or whatever type of building it is. These types of higher up windows are great candidates for art glass because their location shows them off well and usually means they will have different types of lighting coming through them throughout the day.
Adding art glass such as sandblasting, cast glass, or stained glass is a great way to show off your style, add any privacy needed, and upgrade your transom windows.

Many homes feature door inserts in their front doors, and some have side lites as well, or sometimes it is just a side lite or two. These are great places for stained glass overlay or stained glass. These types of art glass can be created with many different colors, textures, or bevels. Our designers can match what our clients already have, whether it is creating a new door insert or side lites to match original pieces. Or, we can create a whole new set that better reflects our clients style.
The front door is the entrance to the home, and we love helping our clients make these entrances grand! Plus, the different colors and textures add as much privacy and obscurity as you would like.

Have full privacy in your bathroom with an art glass window like this one! Here our clients view now features a flowering tree over the water with the mountains in the background. The sky feels like dusk, for the perfect relaxing soak in the tub. This level of privacy is great and you are left with your own perfect view outside instead of the road, a wall, or on occasion your neighbors bathroom window!

Looking out at greenery is not too shabby of a view, but there wasn’t much else to hold interest. By adding a palm tree arching into the frame and some color with birds of paradise, we created a permanent tropical view! The bottom of the window is obscured for a little more privacy. However, the natural view can still be seen and works well with the plants created on glass. We think this is a wonderful combination and the clients do as well. This is also a great example in using clear areas in your design - from peepholes to most of the window!

This half circle of glass is called a half round and as a window above another window (or door), it is called a transom. This design type is sometimes called clear stained glass or lead and bevel. While lead and bevel can have color to it, it usually does not and instead lets the shapes created from the lead and the dimensional bevels do all showing off!
This glass was installed right up to the original window which will protect the art glass and provide a wonderful design that adds privacy. Because of the lack of color, it helps if you are thinking of selling your home and do not want someone locked into a certain color. Or maybe you love it so much, you take it with you! Of course, lead and bevel is loved by many and can be enjoyed in your home for years to come!
We love the leadlines drawing your eye to the diamond shaped bevels surrounded by the swooping curls of the lead. A contrasting texture follows the shape of the half round framing the design well. Since all of our glass, art glass and mirror is custom, we can create shapes beyond rectangles and circles. These cabinet doors had a custom art glass added to the center of the doors that added a great design element while keeping whats behind it hidden. Plus there is a delightful glow when light is shown through the glass!
If you are looking to add some art to your kitchen while hiding a possibly not so organized cabinet, art glass is the way to go! We combined color, silvery lead lines, and diamond shape bevel for this mirrored floral design. We love the “flow” of the background color and how it all compliments the light wood of the cabinet.
Our designers often take inspiration from the surroundings of where the art glass will be because sometimes are clients know they need a change but might not quite know what they want the final design to be. The sidelight next to this front door formally had some very public clear glass in it. With art glass, the light is still able to get in while you maintain your privacy. On top of that, you get you very own personalized view of whatever you like! Here, our clients have the setting sun with beaming rays, swooping seagulls, the ocean waves, and a shell nestled in the sand. If some clear areas or a peephole is needed, we ca integrate that into the design as well!
The before and after below shows a door with two sidelites and a transom window above. The design was created to compliment each other and provide some privacy by using a texture that obscures the view inside and out. This is a custom lead and bevel design with a traditional flair. This colorless stained glass means you are not tied to a color to match, and if the place will be sold, then the curb appeal is intact by having this type of bevel design. It is also great for picky HOA’s!
